SUMMARY:
Hotline Volunteer Advocates answer calls for the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Hotline Volunteer Advocates provide guidance, referrals and information to callers who are experiencing domestic and dating abuse
QUALIFICATIONS:
Hotline Volunteer Advocates:
Must be 18 years of age or older; have an ability to listen well and compassionately; friendly, flexible personality; and must be able to work within the agency’s guiding principles to empower callers.
REQUIREMENTS:
Hotline Volunteer Advocates:
- Attend a Question &Answer meeting and tour.
- Submit to a criminal background check and application process with at least three personal, educational and professional references.
- Attend the National Domestic Violence Hotline volunteer advocate 44 hour training.
- Attend an interview with NDVH Coordinator after training.
- Demonstrate adequate skills in crisis intervention through participation in six hours of monitoring live NDVH calls and role playing exercises.
- Commit to eight hours of work per month.
- Attend in-service trainings and continuing education during their tenure.


Help is available to callers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Hotline advocates are available for victims and anyone calling on their behalf to provide crisis intervention, safety planning, information and referrals to agencies in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Assistance is available in English and Spanish with access to more than 170 languages through interpreter services.
